Philadelphia author and performer, Samantha Borrow, spent the summer on her motorcycle touring the U.S. in support of her first book GRIT and tender membrane –a travelogue of poetry and memoir. Samantha’s book thus far has received impressive reviews including a memorable one from the Jersey Beat Magazine:
“Samantha Barrow will always stand out as one of the gutsiest and most provocative performers I’ve seen… She’s the kind of poet you’d want to meet if you think you don’t like poetry.”
“I needed an adventure,” Barrow says. As she writes in the book’s introduction, “I knew a ton of boys with varying degrees of talent who made it across this country alone with a guitar or with a band and came back broke, but a little sturdier, as if they’d found something out there. Even if it had sucked, there was an earth beneath their feet. If they could do it, I could do it too.”
Not only a poet and performer, but also an activist, educator, and producer, Barrow received a second grant this year from the Leeway Foundation, a program that celebrates the power and vision of women and trans artists creating social change.
