Ordinarily, I don’t fancy riding in cold weather (here in South Texas that’s 60 degrees), but a recent recall on my Ninja and the beckoning of a sunny day persuaded me from my cocoon. And heck, I had these shiny new “Bombshell” motorcycle boots Santa dropped off in December that needed some mileage.
A couple of weeks ago I received a troubling recall letter that my little 2006 Ninja might possibly have a FUEL LEAK in the gas tank. Gee, that would have been nice to know say a thousand miles ago… anyhoo, I digress. This meant that I would have to travel across the city in January’s blistery winds to the local bike shop for an immediate remedy of this unfortunate situation. Luckily, the bike goddesses were smiling and the sun warmed the morning to an agreeable 65º. In reality, this recall of sorts was the perfect excuse for me to try out my new Bombshell boots. What’s the big deal? What’s the big deal!
From the first moment I saw these boots, these futuristic, bad motor scooter, black beauties in Icon’s apparel magazine, I knew they should be mine. And mind you, I’m a mother, frugal at best, not one to follow every latest trend and certainly not one to fall prey to flashy advertising (although, note to self: apparently I am).
After inspecting my bike, I suited up. With a couple of quick zips I was instantly transformed into Wonder Woman’s shorter sister on two wheels. I would now go and conquer the highway and hope to God that these boots would not be the end of me. Was I willing to die for fashion? You bet.
Wow! What a glorious time these boots gave me. I had no trouble adjusting to the wedge style heel (pinch me!) They were indeed sturdy and strong just like the box they came in said. The rubber sole, although a bit narrow, dutifully grabbed the road at every stop. My favorite part of the boot however, happens to be the little patch of suede that sits perfectly atop the shifting boot (see image), which gripped the peg with every gear I met.
These are real motorcycle boots! Long after the shine is gone, I think they will continue to give me super human strength on the road. Testify!
Oh yeah, and that gas leak thing, turned out to be a false alarm. Got the green light from the service folks and was back on my way to two-wheel freedom. Bombshells and all.
Shout out to my husband, Brian, who was pretty darn handy with the camera that day.

I love the boots, too... but once again, Icon is too small in their size range! These boots are the 3rd item I've returned from the Icon line. I had to squeeze my size 10 foot into those boots and no way could I walk around let alone ride in them. Such cute, well made stuff - why don't they make sizes that fit the average American woman??That's the end of my bitchin' for today;-)
