February 10, 1964 - January 26, 2009 It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that HH’s own contributing writer, K.Lee Kappmeier passed away on January 26, 2009 from colorectal cancer.
K.Lee was a beautiful biker, godduss, writer, yogini, and friend who filled lives and roads with her wit and wisdom. She was someone who simply loved life, and feared not death, but not fully living. As we look at her life, we all know and take comfort in that she truly did live fully and continues to do so in the words she left behind and in spirit from above. In her poignant last article for HH, “How a Biker Babe Battles Cancer”, she gives us inspiration despite the trials and tribulations of going through such an illness and how being a part of the biker sisterhood was an incredible source of strength for her. It is our pleasure to honor K.Lee, she will be missed dearly by not only us, but the whole motorcycle community, and our hearts go out to all of her friends and family. Namaste.
Take a moment to read one of her poems:
Weekend Warrior Goddesses
Collective soul the ironbutt, will of steel, and heart of gold-
we are women with vision beyond reason that takes hold
Pushing limits, pulling each other along
biker chicks are nothing less then strong
No room for weakness in the knees
as we slice through endless time in the breeze
Don’t hate us because we’re beautiful & bold;
mild mannered yet wild as we break the mold.
Praise the dirt on our boots and the sparkle in our eye
of spirit & tenacity worship all women in the wind as we fly by
To the Goddess we drive in dedication
Blessings build where we can plant inspiration
It’s a marathon motorcycle meditation !
We’ll take your breath away
destroying any compass of dismay
No guts no glory
we cycle and continue our Herstory.
